Today Father Kevin joined us for for our assembly. The children wowed him singing our new song 'Lord I lift your name on high'. Father Kevin reminded us how quickly time flies by and it has been a whole three weeks since Christmas and Boxing Day. The children revisited their memories from Christmas, opening their presents and spending time with their family. He discussed that at New Year we usually make promises to help make our lives even better. Some of the teachers shared their New Year Resolutions and the children were eager to share theirs too, including drinking more water, learning how to overcome challenges and to never give up even though they may find things difficult.
Father Kevin reminded us that resolutions can be about becoming healthy and fitter, but it could also be to spend time with others, making them feel happier. He shared his experiences of working with others and supporting others in their time of need. Father Kevin encouraged the children to think of our St John's Values and focussed on our value of kindness. He asked the children to think of ways to be kind to others, by sharing what we have, listening to others and helping them when they are in need.
Father Kevin challenged the children to be kinder this year, to make our school a kinder place full of friendship and love.
He then finished our assembly with a prayer:
We thank you for the people that we have around us and that we share our lives with, including family, friends and those in school. We ask you to help us to be kinder children and to help our friends in their time of need. We ask you to remind us to think of others, to remind us to help those around us and to make them happier again.
The children then ended our worship time singing 'This Little Light of Mine'.
