Today, Father Kevin joined us for our Tuesday morning Worship. It was also a special Tuesday morning because it was Mrs Lightfoot's first Worship alongside Kevin since returning from Maternity leave!
Father Kevin started our assembly by telling everyone his wonderful news - it was his birthday! The children were all eager to shout happy birthday to Father Kevin!
Father Kevin asked the children 'What's happening on Sunday?' The children all knew the answer to that question. It will be Mothering Sunday of course! Father Kevin explained that Mothering Sunday is when we take the opportunity to get something special for the people who take care of us. He reminded us that there are lots of special ladies in our families like our mums, aunties, sisters, grandmas, or even the lady who lives next door!
Mothering Sunday is a day to celebrate everything that those special ladies do for us and a way of saying thank you for being there. He discussed how we often buy our special ladies a card and maybe a gift like chocolates, or flowers. He reminded the children that a gift or card that has been handmade is even more special. Father Kevin said he would like to make a heart card, but to do that he would need some help. He chose a volunteer to help him make a heart card to give to his mum. Father Kevin asked, 'Who is going to be making a card?' Father Kevin reminded the children that it's important to make a card with love in your heart and by making it yourself, you are showing how much you care for someone else.
Father Kevin then chose some more children to go and help him. He reminded the children that love comes in all shapes and sizes. He asked the children to fold the card, remove a little bit and then unfold it to show a symbol of love. The children were amazed to see the symbol left - a cross! Father Kevin told the children that the love of God is sometimes cross shaped and we should remember that God gave his son for us, showing how much he really loves us all.
What a lovely message that was for our boys and girls! Father Kevin then finished with a prayer reminding the children to show the people who mean so much to them and those special ladies in their lives some love, especially on Mothering Sunday.
