Year 3/4

Year 3/4

Welcome to Year 3/4

Year 3/4 is when your children begin their exciting learning journey in Key Stage 2. As they get a little older, we encourage them to take greater responsibility for their own learning and to grow as independent individuals. We continue to instil in them a sense of curiosity and wonderment about the world around them, and we achieve this by studying a wide variety of stimulating topics. Above all, we are keen for them to be confident risk takers and promote the view of ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained!’

The Year 3/4 Team

Our Year 3/4 class teachers are Mrs Bailey, Mrs Rigby, Mrs Boardman, Mrs Grundy and Miss Corbett. Our fabulous learning support assistants are Mrs Chalmers, Mr Webster, Miss Smart, Mrs Prescott and Miss Redmond.

We set homework to consolidate the learning in the classroom and develop a working partnership between school and home. This is a wonderful way for you, as parents, to find out what your child has been working on at school. Here is an overview of homework expectations in Year 3/4:

Monday: Spelling homework

Friday: Times tables

Monday – Friday: Your child should check their planner regularly to ensure they complete their homework by the specified date. This will allow them to access the comprehension that they do at school with their teacher.

What can parents to do help at home?

Now that your children are in Key Stage 2, we encourage them to fill in their own planners to increase their independence. Please check and sign your child’s homework diary each week.

From February 2019, all Year 3 pupils will attend swimming lessons at Howe Bridge Leisure Centre on Thursday afternoons. There is no charge for lessons and details will be confirmed nearer to the time regarding pick up and drop off arrangements. Any Year 4 pupils who didn’t achieve the National Curriculum Award last year will need to continue their swimming lessons in February.

Swimming kit: swimming costume/swimming shorts, cap, goggles, towel and bag.

P.E. Days

Mrs Bailey's Class - Wednesday and Friday

Mrs Grundy's Class - Tuesday and Wednesday
Mrs Rigby's-  Wednesday and Thursday

We request that all children have their full P.E. kit in school every day as PE lessons may vary if timetable changes occur.

Year 4 Music

This year, Year 4 pupils have the opportunity to learn a brass musical instrument and can take it home every Friday. These must be brought into school every Friday so that children can participate in their music lesson.
