Meet the Governors

Our Governing Body consists of members from within the school team and the wider community, and we offer a diverse range of skills and experiences.

Chair of Governors Mrs Vivien Hilton.

Working Together to Continually Improve the School

The school governing body knows the school really well.  They use their experience to challenge and support leaders to continually improve the school. Governors check carefully that the school is taking the right actions in the best interests of all pupils.

Those responsible for governance do not manage the daily operations of the school; this is the job of the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team.

Core Governor Responsibilities

✔️Set strategic direction

The governing body plays a key role in ensuring the clarity of the school's vision, ethos and strategic direction.

✔️Provide support and challenge

The governing body strikes a balance of support and challenge to secure the best achievement for all pupils.  They hold the headteacher to account through rigorous questioning of her decision-making, particularly regarding pupil achievement.

✔️Oversee the financial performance of the school

Those responsible for governance, in collaboration with the Headteacher, oversee school finances, setting priorities and budget allocation, guided by the school's strategic development plan.  This strategic role ensures prudent financial management.

Governor Meetings

We no longer hold separate committee meetings for Finance, Staffing and Premises, or Pupil, Curriculum and Community. Instead, these areas are now covered within Full Governing Body meetings, where specific time is dedicated to each focus area.

Structure

The governing body of Leigh St. John's C of E Primary School comprises co-opted Governors, including representatives from the local community, school staff and parents.  Terms of reference for all committees are available on request from the school.

Ad-hoc Committees

When required, for example, in the eventuality of a formal complaint stage 2 hearing or pupil discipline hearing, an ad-hoc committee comprising three governors will be convened.  All three governors will be impartial and have no prior knowledge of the circumstances.
