At the Heart of the Community

At St. John's we aim to serve our community fully and effectively, providing excellence for pupils, families and our wider members of the community.

This means we endevour to seize every opportunity that enables our pupils to make a positive contribution within the community.

Our "And the Learning Goes On" document provides details about how we enrich our school curriculum through community rich experiences.  You can read this below.

Our children help to shape the community by being examples of good citizenship.  They also make a positive contribution to community activities, some of which include local neighbourhood projects, raising monies for numerous charities, creating pieces of art for display in the local hospital, singing at local events and much, much more.

We would describe our school as a "nurturing community" and one which prioritises the 'wellness' of all its members, including, children, parents and staff.  Our Nurture Group is effectively run by our fabulous Pastoral Manager and Pastoral Teaching Assistant, who support groups of children to achieve emotional and social wellness.  Our innovative Parent Programme also promotes the emotional wellness of some of our vulnerable parents who attend weekly sessions to explore strategies for managing such difficulties as stress and anxiety.

We are very proud to have the Eco School's Green Flag Award for our ongoing commitment to caring for everyone and everything.  More information about our very proactive Eco work can be viewed by clicking the Eco Work quick link on the side menu located in the top left corner of the screen.

Our school has strong links with St. Mary's Church and its Parish Priest, Father Kevin Crinks.  Christian values feature in the whole of our school's work and outlook and this is reflected in the children's outstanding behaviour and the kindness they show each other.  You can read more about our church links by navigating to the Church tab in the side menu located in the top left corner of the screen.
