Admission to Reception 2022 - 2023

Registering An Interest

All parents who may be interested in a place for their child at Leigh St. John's are encouraged to contact the school office on

01942 672825 and register an interest, however, it is important to note that this does not guarantee a place.  This ensures we will contact you with our school tour details, as well as send you a school prospectus in the November before your child is due to start school.

The Application Process

The applications process is coordinated by Wigan Council's School Places Team. Applications for a Reception place must be made through the Local Authority.  When the application window opens in September 2021, applications can be made online at www.wigan.gov.uk or by completing a Wigan Council primary school application paper form which can be printed from the councils site.

It is essential that parents applying for a place at Leigh St John's under criteria 3, 4, 5 or 6 also complete the SUPPLEMENTARY FORM in addition to the Wigan Council Application Form.   This helps us to determine under which criteria we must consider each applicant. All supplementary forms must be returned to Leigh St. John's CE Primary School and NOT handed in at another school!

Those families who wish to be considered under Criteria 3 or Criteria 4 should be advised that they also need to complete the addendum of the school's Supplementary Form.

Returning Application Forms

Applications can be handed in to any Wigan Primary school and receipts will be issued by the school. These should be kept safe until letters of allocation are sent out.  However, the SUPPLEMENTARY FORM needs to be returned to Leigh St John's CE Primary School.

Parents and carers are advised to ensure that application forms and supplementary forms are submitted by the specified deadline to avoid disappointment.  Any application received after the deadline will be dealt with as a late application after all other applicants have been considered.

If supplementary forms are posted to the school, it is the responsibility of the applicant to check to ensure they have been received by our office team.

A Place is Offered!

When pupils are admitted to Leigh St. John's C.E. Primary School, parents and carers will receive a 'Welcome Pack' which will contain an invitation to our 'Welcome Meeting', as well as other documents and information to be returned.  In the Summer Term prior to their child starting school, parents and carers will be invited to attend a series of fun taster sessions with their child.  Parents and carers will be notified in advance of the dates and times of these.  The taster sessions which are known as 'BIG SCHOOL TIME' are a fabulous opportunity for children to make new friends and to get to know their teachers, as well as have a jolly good time playing in their new classroom.  These visits are also a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to meet up and to establish new friendships.

Primary Mid Year Applications

The Primary Mid Year Applications process is also coordinated by Wigan Council's School Organisation Team and parents and carers wishing to apply for a school transfer for their child should complete the form below:
