Crucial Crew

What an important visit to crucial crew we have had this afternoon!

The children attended 7 workshops which all had key messages about how to stay safe. These included how to help someone who is unconscious by shouting for help and putting them in the recovery position; the importance of staying AWAY from train tracks; the impact antisocial behaviour has on others; examples of crime and the punishments for this including carrying a knife; road safety and the importance of wearing helmet and hi-viz clothing; online safety and cyberbullying including the importance of only speaking to FRIENDS online and to turn location settings OFF; how to use the bus network safely, reminding the children of how to access help if they need to call a parent or guardian from the station; and, the impact drugs and alcohol can have on their bodies.

There were some tough messages today and the reality of what can happen if the children do not follow the rules we have in place to keep them safe. We discussed how the procedures we follow in school and the rules put in place at home are to keep them safe - even if it does seem like we’re nagging them at times! A very informative trip and a great afternoon.
