Let Girls Play Event for International Women’s Day

Our Year 5 sports leaders were invited to take part in training through Wigan School Games. As part of their training, they were taught how to play and deliver games aimed at girls and based around football skills at Wigan Athletics youth training ground. The intention of the training was to provide the skills they would need to organise and deliver a festival specifically to encourage girls to get involved in playing and learning those football skills. On the 8th of March, the sports leaders delivered the festival of ‘Let Girls Play’ on International Women’s Day. They delivered a warm up and a number of activities such as ‘the great escape’, ‘cat and mouse’ and ‘dragons den’ all of which were based around football skills. They applied skills learned in their training to encourage game progression and how they could adapt the things they learned for the range of children in school from Reception age up to Year 6.They did an absolutely remarkable job and the festivities were enjoyed by all! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
