  • Remembrance Day - 100 Years since the end of the War

    Today, the whole school spent the day learning about the importance of the poppy in relation to WW1. They all learnt about what happened during WW1 and how the Poppy is a symbol to help us remember all of the soldiers who died during the First World War. Take a look at some of the learning activities which took part today!
  • Y3/4 Visit the Cenotaph

    This afternoon, as part of their learning about the WW1 anniversary, all of the children in Y3 and Y4 visited the cenotaph in Leigh. They made poppies earlier in the day and wrote their own poems. Once at the cenotaph the children looked at the names of the soldiers engraved on the cenotaph, read their poems aloud and presented their poppy wreaths.
  • Harvest Art - We are so creative!

    This week the children have been producing lots of Harvest inspired art work in time for the upcoming Harvest Festival in church. All of the children's work will be used to decorate Church for our Festival Family Service.
  • Remembrance Weekend

    On 11th November 2018 it will be 100 years since the Armistice was signed. As the part of the Remembrance Commemorations, Year 5 have been reading some poetry linked to the The First World War. The poems are the Kohima poem, In Flanders Fields and For the Fallen. More events are planned to take place over the next few weeks. Here is a small presentation of their work. Thank you to the year 5's who took part.
    This is also a reminder to buy your poppies from school. More information will be given out on the sale of poppies after half term.

  • Curling Competition

    Children from ks1 took part in the Curling competition at Leigh Sports Village. They competed against other local schools in a series of 9 heats. The children had to roll the stone towards the target with the aim of getting their teams stones closest to the centre. They did a fantastic job, showed great team spirit and were a credit to our school! They each earned a 'sporting hero' certificate! Well done team st John's! 👏🏼👏🏼🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
  • Harvest Festival

    This afternoon, the whole school attended a harvest festival at St Mary's parish church led by Father Kevin. our JAM squad children gave readings from the bible and said prayers in front of the children and our attending parents as part of the service. The children also performed songs for the congregation and blew our socks off! Thank you to all of our parents who graciously donated non perishable goods for our harvest festival - your donations are greatly appreciated and will be distributed to local citizens. A special thank you goes to Father Kevin for leading the service.
