Keep up to date with all that's happening!
Children, families and staff took part in the Christmas Family Worship with our very own Father Kevin Krinks.
Father Kevin lead a beautiful christingle service and was joined by some of our year 4 children who delivered a wonderful reading. All of the children in school performed songs from our nativities and managed to raise the roof, delighting parents and teachers alike!
Tonight, it was lovely to see so many families joining us to create a collaborative Christmas tree that is going to be hung in church for our Christmas Tree Festival. The families used collage, glitter and coloured pens to create beautiful foam Christmas characters including Father Christmas, reindeer, snowmen as well as some icicles. The 'triangular' tree sections were attached together ready to be taken to church too!
We cannot wait to see our creative designs when we attend the service in Church on Tuesday next week.
Ring a ring of roses
The children learnt about 1665 when the Plague spread across London. They sang the song ‘ring, a ring of roses’ and learnt the meaning of the words.
Ring of roses - the children learnt that if the people had the plague, they would have a red ring on their skin.
A pocket full of posies - the people thought that they could prevent catching the plague by having a pocket full of flower petals and herbs.
A tishoo a tishoo - one of the symptoms was sneezing!
They all fall down - sadly those who had the plague would die.
There was a plague doctor who wore a long cape and a bird mask. The plague doctor would visit the houses and visit the people living there. If the person had the plague, they would be locked inside their house and were not allowed to leave. The plague doctor would then paint a Red Cross on the door so everyone knew that the people living there had the plague!
Our children dressed up as the plague doctor, made their own posies and role played being a person with he plague!
Today, Pudding Lane appeared in St John's playground. A fire started in Pudding Lane bakery and quickly spread to all of the houses on Pudding Lane.
Buildings were destroyed as the flames engulfed the buildings and smoke billowed out of the Windows.
Luckily, the fire brigade came to the rescue!
The children loved the experience and eagerly shouted when they saw the flames growing. The fire brigade thought that they had put the fire out, but the children spotted a flame burning inside one of the houses (the fire brigade were good actors).
A fantastic experience that I'm sure all of the children will remember!
Thank you for helping them create the houses at home. We would not have been able to have this experience without your support! ⭐️
The fire brigade discussed the importance of fire safety and explained what they did and what they wore when tackling a fire. We had a wonderful volunteer, Mr Worsley, who tried on the protective clothing and described how it felt to be wearing it. He explained that the clothing was very heavy and HOT!
