  • Christmas Family Worship

    Tue 28 Nov 2017

Children, families and staff took part in the Christmas Family Worship with our very own Father Kevin Krinks.

Father Kevin lead a beautiful christingle service and was joined by some of our year 4 children who delivered a wonderful reading. All of the children in school performed songs from our nativities and managed to raise the roof, delighting parents and teachers alike!

  • JAM club - session 2

    Tue 21 Nov 2017

Tonight, it was lovely to see so many families joining us to create a collaborative Christmas tree that is going to be hung in church for our Christmas Tree Festival. The families used collage, glitter and coloured pens to create beautiful foam Christmas characters including Father Christmas, reindeer, snowmen as well as some icicles. The 'triangular' tree sections were attached together ready to be taken to church too!

We cannot wait to see our creative designs when we attend the service in Church on Tuesday next week.

  • Children in Need

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
A huge thank you to all of our families who dressed up in 'spots' to support Children in Need. We talked about how it is important to use our St. John's value of kindness to think of other people that are less fortunate than we are. Thank you for supporting this fantastic charity!
  • Acorn Farm Visit

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
What a wonderful experience we all had! Acorn farm came to visit to teach the children all about the different animals, what they ate and where the food came from. The farmers changed the learning focus to suit the topics that the different year groups were learning about. An amazing day which the children will definitely remember!
  • Year 2 visit to Staircase House

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
The children visited Staircase House in Stockport to learn about the Great Fire of London. When learning about the Great Fire of London, the children were all given a role. They dressed up as the character whilst retelling what happened during September 1666. The children did lots of role play whilst learning about the key events that happened whilst the a Great Fire of London spread. They learnt about the key events, from the fire starting, the king being told but him not believing that it was a raging fire, the people helping to put the fire out by creating a chain of buckets and then the whole of London being destroyed! A fantastic day where history came to life!
  • Year 2 visit to Staircase House - The Plague

    Mon 20 Nov 2017

    Ring a ring of roses

The children learnt about 1665 when the Plague spread across London. They sang the song ‘ring, a ring of roses’ and learnt the meaning of the words.

Ring of roses - the children learnt that if the people had the plague, they would have a red ring on their skin.

A pocket full of posies - the people thought that they could prevent catching the plague by having a pocket full of flower petals and herbs.

A tishoo a tishoo - one of the symptoms was sneezing!

They all fall down - sadly those who had the plague would die.

There was a plague doctor who wore a long cape and a bird mask. The plague doctor would visit the houses and visit the people living there. If the person had the plague, they would be locked inside their house and were not allowed to leave. The plague doctor would then paint a Red Cross on the door so everyone knew that the people living there had the plague!

Our children dressed up as the plague doctor, made their own posies and role played being a person with he plague!

  • JAM club with Father Kevin

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
For our first JAM club, families were invited to help create a collaged Christmas Tree which would be used to decorate the church. The children and their families used a range of techniques from tearing, scrunching and layering pieces of tissue paper. They all started with different sized triangles which would be hung together. Next week, they will assembly the final product, adding handmade decorations like baubles and lights!
  • Senior Digital Leaders attend Digital Day at Events City

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
Today, our Senior Digital Leaders (the children in Year 4) attended a Digital Day conference in Manchester. They met the cast of 'Educating Manchester' and Mr P! They were shown lots of exciting apps that we could use both in school and at home, learnt how to use coding software and even played on a range of new computer games. Throughout the day, although it was very hands on and play based, the children were learning how to stay safe online as well as what to do if they were being cyber bullied. Our Digital Leader's will now be evaluating their experiences and making suggestions of apps and coding opportunities that we could use at St John's to make our Computing curriculum even more exciting!
  • Coding Club

    Mon 20 Nov 2017
Today the boys and girls had their first experience of 'Coding Club'. They used a programme called Espresso Coding and learnt how to make characters move across the screen using the precise algorithms (instructions). If you would like to try this at home, go and see Miss Cunniffe for the log in details!
  • Fire! Fire!

    Fri 03 Nov 2017

Today, Pudding Lane appeared in St John's playground. A fire started in Pudding Lane bakery and quickly spread to all of the houses on Pudding Lane.

Buildings were destroyed as the flames engulfed the buildings and smoke billowed out of the Windows.

Luckily, the fire brigade came to the rescue!

The children loved the experience and eagerly shouted when they saw the flames growing. The fire brigade thought that they had put the fire out, but the children spotted a flame burning inside one of the houses (the fire brigade were good actors).

A fantastic experience that I'm sure all of the children will remember!
Thank you for helping them create the houses at home. We would not have been able to have this experience without your support! ⭐️

The fire brigade discussed the importance of fire safety and explained what they did and what they wore when tackling a fire. We had a wonderful volunteer, Mr Worsley, who tried on the protective clothing and described how it felt to be wearing it. He explained that the clothing was very heavy and HOT!
